2008-2009 Concert Season
Our 2008-2009 concert season, the first fully scheduled to be conducted by our new music director, Kent Tritle, will include Bach’s St. John Passion at Rose Theater on October 22, 2008, Handel’s Messiah on December 22 and 23 at Carnegie Hall, and Brahms’s German Requiem on March 22, 2009 at Rose Theater. Subscription series tickets for the 2008-2009 season are now available for purchase on the Tickets page. Additional details on these concerts are posted on the Concerts page.
For the St. John Passion performance, Kent Tritle will adopt the same performance configuration that Musica Sacra has used for its three past performances of the St. Matthew, with a “chorale choir” surrounding the concert hall that joins the Musica Sacra chorus in singing the chorale sections of Bach’s score. The added choral resource will be made up of amateur singers drawn from the top amateur choruses in the New York metropolitan area. Based on the notion that Bach’s use of chorales in his passions was intended to evoke congregational singing, this performance format adds a whole new dimension to these works. It is an approach that has resulted in exceptional critical and audience acclaim.
